Check suspicious files for virus infection online

Suppose you just downloaded a file off some website. The file seems suspicious to you, or the originating source of the file. You got a top class anti-virus installed with latest updates, but odd enough your anti-virus does not detect it.

Now now, don't be in a hurry to open the file and view what's behind! This can be fatal and risky for your computer and your precious data. The file could be infected with a virus, trojan or worm, which is too new to be included in the virus definitions of your anti-virus.

Yes it does happen, and quite frequently. New viruses are not detected instantly by anti-virus companies. Once the suspicious file circulate, infecting many systems, only then the anti-virus companies get to know about it. Not every anti-virus get to know about the threat at the same time. Some are quick to do the analysis and detect the threat.

You want to be safe and sure, that the suspicious file is not really infected. Your anti-virus may not be able to detect it, but there are many other as well and any of them might already have detected it. It's always better to be safe than sorry, so do NOT execute it immediately!!

There are two very good online file scanners which use several anti-virus engines with latest updates to scan the file. All the top anti-virus softwares are included. The websites are:

http://virusscan.jotti.org
and the other one is http://www.virustotal.com

It is always better to be safe than sorry, so if you find a file suspicious, submit it immediately for online scan using different anti-virus engines found on above mentioned websites.
